What Is RSV?

RSV is short for respiratory syncytial virus. The name of the virus derives from the syncytia. This is a tricky term, as it refers to clusters of cells visualized on electron micrographs, where the nuclei of infected patient cells have fused with nearby cells to form one big multinucleated cell. Hence the name.
